The Nion limited collection will be shipped in beautiful reusable, collapsable packaging that is designed to fold up, ready for free return post for us to reuse repeatedly to ship more lamps.
This will be our approach to packaging and shipping going forward, as an ongoing project aimed at addressing the unnecessary problems we create and perpetuate around packaging and shipping.
Consisting of a reusable shipping bag and box made from natural materials we are hoping to establish a different paradigm for delivering products to our patrons. Our packaging is almost infinitely reusable, and safely biodegradable. Making it healthy for you, for us, our couriers and the planet. No plastic bags, tapes, glues, stickers slip bags or chemicals. We know this because we make it ourselves.
Although the packaging is a joy to receive and a joy to unpack the emphasis is on doing things differently, and doing it together with a community of patrons. It is really about a collaboration; between us, you, our couriers and with nature.
The bag is made from organic, sustainably grown hemp, a wonderful plant and crop for regenerative agriculture practices. The hemp canvas is sealed and protected with honey bee wax is provided by a bee friendly beekeeper in Wales while we get our own hives up and running.
The box is made from a natural wool felt composite. It slots together and flat packs easily once unpacked, to return to us free of charge, ready to be reused for another shipment. The felt is made strong and rigid by a bioplastic polymer made from corn starch giving additional protection to its precious cargo.
How the packaging works
1. Make
We begin by sourcing natural, organic, durable and non-toxic materials for the packaging from local & transparent UK based growers and manufacturers. We then prepare the materials and make the packing bags and flat-pack boxes in small batches, using a range of traditional and digital manufacturing techniques.
2. Ship
Items are then carefully checked, packed, labeled and sealed. Once prepared they are shipped directly to you with our tried and trusted couriers.
3. Return
Once you receive your package we ask you to send the bag, containing the empty flat-packed box back to us free of charge. Simply fold it all up, attach the prepaid label and pop it in to your nearest postal office.
4. Reuse
When we receive the package back we check it over and prepare it for another shipment.
